   Over his eight years in office, Mayor Gary Will has hardly had a single challenger file against him.

   This year, he’ll have two.

   A pair of Ripon men filed to run against Will in the final hours before the Tuesday evening deadline: Jason Kauffeld and Craig Tebon.

   And that’s just the beginning of the flurry of changes made to the April 4 ballot as the minutes ticked toward 5 p.m.

   A Ripon alderman for District 2 expected to run again did not file by deadline, extending the filing deadline to Friday afternoon.

   And a former Ripon alderman who moved to a new district — District 4 — now has chosen to challenge one of his former colleagues.

   This turns what appeared as recently as Monday to be a ho-hum election dominated by incumbents into one of Ripon’s most interesting electoral seasons in years.

   The greatest challenge will come on the mayor’s ticket: incumbent Will versus challengers Kauffeld and Tebon.
