Economic Community Development Director Bob Gintoft has until the end of 2019 to prove himself.

Whether the council followed the letter of the law when setting that deadline, however, is unclear.

Last week Monday night, after about 10 minutes of a special Common Council meeting and a Committee of the Whole meeting, the City Council members went into a closed session.

That session was noticed as, “pursuant of WI Sate Statute Section 19.85 (1)(c) considering employment, promotion, compensation or performance evaluation data of city employees over which the City has jurisdiction and exercises responsibility as it relates to the Economic Community Development Director’s position.”

However, 50 minutes later, when the committee reconvened, it immediately voted on a motion made by Ald. Diana Galster-Kinas and seconded by Ald. Kevin Karau “to continue the position of Economic Community Development Director’s position for the year of 2019.”

No discussion occurred prior to or after the motion concerning the position of the economic community development director.
