Green Lake soon could pass an ordinance prohibiting portable storage units from sitting long-term on properties within the city.

At a meeting Monday, the Plan Commission instructed City Attorney Dan Sondalle and Zoning Administrator Sue Leahy to draft such an ordinance to recommend to the City Council in the coming months.

Five of the commission members — Mayor Jon McConnell, Philip Baranowski, Dennis Carroll, Ald. George King and Conrad Rompala — discussed the lack of language in the city’s municipal code relating to temporary storage containers, such as trailers.

The catalyst for the deliberation was a conditional use permit application by Lydeo LLC, a storage unit company located behind and owned by Oak Ridge Foam and Coating Systems inside the Commercial Avenue industrial park.

At a meeting last month, owner and applicant Jed Stellmacher addressed the Plan Commission about his company’s proposal, according to meeting minutes.

Although the application was on the agenda Monday, McConnell informed his fellow commission members that Lydeo had withdrawn its proposal.
