What can avid golfers do in Wisconsin’s season of white, when their links are buried under snow and their swings rust like golf clubs left out over winter?

Fly south? Take up ping-pong? Twiddle their thumbs?

It turns out finding a nearby place to golf in winter is nowhere near as difficult as finding a golf ball in a snowbank.

For the fourth year running, Mike Moldenhauer has opened up the icy farmlands around Fairwater to the sunny fairways of famous golf courses at his indoor golf center, the 10 Iron.

And its season starts exactly when the outdoor golf season ends.

Located at 101 Main St., across the street from the Fairwater Civic Center, the 10 Iron operates from November to March and is tucked away between a few residences with which it shares a driveway.

The neighborhood, homey feel is exactly what Moldenhauer is going for.

“It’s sort of become part of the charm of the place,” he said, noting he wanted to give the establishment the feel of hanging out with buddies in a den or “walking into your basement.”
