Ripon has its first fresh face running for office in 2020.

Benjamin Morrison, 908 Newbury St., filed his “Declaration of Candidacy” last week for the District 2 post on the Common Council.

That’s a position currently held by Ald. Rollie Peabody, who has not yet announced whether he plans to run for re-election, as well as Ald. Joel Brockman, who is moving out of the district.

Morrison, who moved to Ripon two years ago, explained that he’s interested in giving back to the community through elected office.

“I’ve always been interested in politics in general; I like being able to work for the people,” he said. “I’m just looking to be voted in by the citizens of District 2 and ensure that their interest are met.”

Morrison, a father of three and grandfather of one, came to Ripon with his family from Port Washington, Wis., and currently works at a prison in Waupun.
