The investigation continues into what led to a Ripon man dying in a two-vehicle accident east of Pickett last week Friday.

Zachary Guyant, 22, of Ripon was pronounced dead on the scene after his pickup crashed into a semi driven by a Pickett man.

The crash occurred at about 5 a.m. on Highway 44 at County Road FF.

“A vehicle driven by Zachary Guyant was driving southbound ... and was struck by an oncoming semi that was heading northbound on Highway 44,” said Patrol Capt.

Lara Vendola-Messer of the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department.

Driving the semi northbound on Highway 44 was Steven Plantz, 58, of Pickett. He was uninjured in the crash.

Little more than that, however, is known regarding the crash.

Vendola-Messer confirmed that Guyant crossed the center-line of Highway 44 before being struck, but could offer little else to explain the tragic incident.
