What could the city of Ripon do with a roughly a half-million dollars?

   That’s not a hypothetical question.

   It’s a real “problem” city officials will wrestle with over the coming months.

   The city of Ripon received $484,811.93 from the estate of Lloyd Mitchell Dec. 18, 2018, after learning of the potential gift back in October.

   “To the best of my knowledge, this is the single largest monetary gift that the city has ever received,” City Administrator Lori Rich said.

   “It’s a fairly significant gift,” City Attorney Lud Wurtz said at Monday’s Common Council meeting.

   That money now is sitting in a separate fund, earning interest for the city of Ripon.
