Blame a squirrel.

The bushy-tailed rodent, seen at the bottom of the photo, was the cause of an approximately half-hour power outage that affected much of the city of Ripon this morning (Wednesday).

The squirrel entered the Alliant Energy substation on Fenton Street, burning out one of the reclosures that resulted in the power outage that began around 9:15 a.m.

Because the outage involved downtown, city personnel placed stop signs at the sites of nonworking traffic lights.

The outage was not long-lived, however, as power was restored in less than an hour.
