What appears to be a small explosion occurred this afternoon at Ripon’s Signature Wafer plant.

According to scanner reports, multiple injuries were reported at the site — including one possible face injury — and about 20 employees were evacuated.

Reports also indicate two individuals were transported by ambulance for medical care.

While temperatures mercifully had risen above 30 degrees for the first time in weeks, a Lamers bus was parked at a far corner of the lot so displaced employees could take shelter from the biting wind.

Numerous emergency vehicles arrived to the scene one after another, including fire engines, squad cars, ambulances and others from several communities, including Ripon, Brandon, Markesan, Rosendale and Fond du Lac.

Stanton Street north of Oshkosh Street was closed off to traffic, which may have impacted workers at other businesses in the industrial park.

Alliant Energy employees also were on hand. Ripon Area Fire District deployed its recently acquired drone as well.
