Marcella “Marcie” Brightman, age 100 of Green Lake, WI was born to eternal life on Friday, November 24, 2017 at Barrett House in Ripon. She was fortunate to have stayed in her own home with her daughter until October 12.

Marcie was born on November 16, 1917 in Manitowoc, WI to Florian and Marie (Antholdt) Schneider. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Manitowoc in 1935. She worked as a nanny and housekeeper for families to be able to attend Oshkosh Normal Teaching College and received her teaching certificate in 1937. Marcie started her teaching career at a one room school house near Shiocton. At the time, she lived with Chet and Millie Van Horn. She soon began dating Millie’s brother, Willis Brightman, and married him in 1940. They farmed and were blessed with children.

In 1946, Marcie and Willis moved to Green Lake. Marcie was busy raising 5 children and helping with both the farm and their excavating business. She was able to return to teaching at a small school in Marquette in 1959. A few years later, she started teaching at Green Lake Public School. Eventually, she became the school librarian until her retirement in 1982. During her busy career, she completed her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education and a certificate in Library and Media Science from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh.

After retirement, Marcie remained active by volunteering at the Caesteker Public Library, Green Lake Historical Society, and Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. She was also the President of Dartford Cemetery for over 30 years and remained an active member of the Green Lake community. Marcie enjoyed camping, canoeing, cross country skiing, gardening, baking, bird watching, reading and helping others.

Marcie is survived by her brother Roger (Bernadine) Schneider, sister-in-law Betty Olson, daughter Mary (Brightman) Scholetzky, son James (Marsha) Brightman, daughter-in-Law Peggy Brightman, grandchildren Randi Davis, Craig Minskey, Patrick Minskey, Elizabeth (Minskey) Kabacinski, Steven Brightman, Stacy (Tom) Bernd, and Bethany (Mark) Andersen, seven great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Marcie is preceded in death by her parents Florian and Marie (Antholdt) Schneider, husband Willis Brightman, son Lorien and grandson Lorien Jr Brightman, daughters Carol and Jane Brightman, brothers Russel and Earl Schneider, sisters Lucille, Ruth and Ethel Schneider, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Chester and Mildred Van Horn, Merlin and Lucille Hegner, Anton and Mae Klemp, Robert and Evelyn Brightman and Roland Olson.

A visitation for Marcie will take place from 9 to 11 am on Friday December 1, 2017 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 530 Ruth Street, Green Lake, WI, with a Rosary starting at 10:15 am. A mass of Catholic Burial will be held at 11am. Interment to follow at Dartford Cemetery in Green Lake. Marcie’s family would like to thank Dr. Stephany Glod, Agnesian Hospice Hope, and the entire staff at Barrett House for the wonderful care given to her during her time there. Also, thank you to Reverend Krogman for spiritual support during Marcie’s last days.
