Dr. Kurt Walejko grew up not far from Ripon.

“I’m originally from Wautoma, so I know the area a little bit,” he said.

Nevertheless, he roamed far from home for a while.

After graduating from dental school at Marquette University in Milwaukee, he did four years of active duty with the Air Force as a dentist.

“I served my first year in a residency program [and] I got extra training in all the specialties of dentistry,” he said. “... After that I was stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base in Rapid City, S.D.”

But something about the area lured Walejko back.

That’s how, after a couple years with an Oshkosh practice, Walejko became the newest dentist back in July at Silver Creek Dentistry, 1209 W. Fond du Lac St. in Ripon.

“I like being a little bit more a part of the community. And, it’s so close to home for my parents,” he said, adding that he appreciates the “small-town feel” of Ripon that reminds him of home.
