Kim and Diane Shady
Kim and Diane Shady

For decades, Kim Shady of Ripon worked in the corporate world, traveling on a regular basis.

   Hotel. Airport.

   Airport. Hotel.

Finally, he got tired it all.

“I said, there’s got to be a better way to run the rest of my life,” he said.

His wife, Diane, had retired, and Kim was ready for a change.

Appropriately, he found a company that came into being in essentially the same way.

“Fish Window Cleaning ... was started in 1978 ... A banker one day said, ‘I think I don’t want to do this anymore.’ It just so happened the next day, his window cleaner comes in and says, ‘I want to sell my business; do you know anyone who might be interested?’” Shady said, retelling the story.

Last fall, a corporate match-maker of sorts put these two together, with the Shadys officially taking over the Appleton franchise of Fish Window Cleaning as of Jan. 1.

For vice president of the company Kim and president Diane, it’s a perfect opportunity.

“There’s a real correlation there [between us and the founder],” he said, adding he’s thrilled to be an entrepreneur and back home once again. “I’m glad to be out of [the corporate world] and home at night and sleeping in my own bed.”
