Turns out Ripon’s eight new tennis courts will be twofers.

They’ll be designed to accommodate players of tennis — and pickleball.

Ripon School Board members voted 8-0 Monday evening to spend $3,600 of unbudgeted money — $450 per court — to hire a contractor to stripe the courts with black tape to create pickleball courts within each.

Their vote was taken as a committee of the whole at a Facilities Committee meeting.

The tennis courts were just constructed this summer and fall on the old Ripon Middle School site north of the new joint middle school/high school building.

Pickleball is a game resembling tennis although played with paddles, a smaller court and a perforated plastic ball.
