Hundreds of students. Dozens of families. A multitude of instruments.

What better way to wrap up the calendar year?

With their gym so full it felt like it was busting at the seams, Murray Park and Quest Elementary students swayed, sang and played as one for their pre-Christmas holiday concert under the direction of the schools’ new music teacher, Christina Muenchow.

No stranger to creating spectacle with masses of Ripon students, the former middle school music teacher kept the afternoon performance rolling along, and not just by energetically leading her kids in a dreidel pantomime.

The children mixed in a range of instruments, including small marimbas, plastic tubes, a keyboard, a full drum set, even a bucket — and, yes, an array of ribbon-adorned recorders.

School staff got in on the fun, too, playing their own piece on recorders. Muenchow told the audience many of the staff put in extra hours in the music room to perfect their performance.
