For the third time in four years, the Ripon Tiger wrestling team can call itself “Regional Champions.”

The Tigers defeated six teams last week Saturday at the Winneconne Division 2 Regional en route to earning a spot in team sectionals.

They finished the meet with 214 points, which was 21 more than second-place Berlin and 33.5 clear of third-place Little Chute.

Other schools in attendance were Omro (127 points), Winneconne (117), Fox Valley Lutheran (100) and Xavier (99).

Ripon also won regional championships in 2015 and 2016.

“It was validation that we did what we needed to do to continue the success of the high school wrestling program,” Ripon head coach Lee Cotton said.

In addition to advancing to team sectionals, the Tigers also qualified eight wrestlers to Saturday’s Oconto Falls Division 2 Sectional.

Among those advancing to individual sectionals with top-two finishes last weekend were LeeRoy Cotton (106-pound weight class), Kaden Keenlance (120), Ethan Kovalaske (126), Ryan Cody (145), Brady Kissinger (160), Joe Kain (182), Tucker Bender (220) and Keegan Nordvold (285).

Cody, Kissinger and Nordvold all won their respective weight classes, while LeeRoy Cotton, Kaden Keenlance, Kovalaske, Kain and Bender notched runner-up performances to move on.
