The Ripon High School boys’ basketball team received the best of both worlds last week Saturday at its regional seeding meeting.

First, it will play a home game in its first contest Tuesday night.

And second, the earliest it potentially would have to face Waupun is the sectional semifinals.

The Tigers were awarded the No. 6 seed in their 12-team half-sectional bracket and will host No. 11-seed North Fond du Lac Tuesday in the regional quarterfinals.

Waupun, meanwhile, is in the other part of the half-sectional bracket as the No. 1 seed, along with Lomira, Campbellsport and Winneconne. All of those teams beat Ripon at least once this season.

Among the schools in the Tigers’ part of the bracket are Laconia, Watertown Luther Prep, Columbus and Berlin. They already have defeated Laconia and Berlin this season, while not yet facing the other teams.

“It worked out for us; the best-possible scenario was that,” Ripon head coach Steve Brooks said. “We were able to secure the home game, which is a good experience for our kids. And … a conversation piece among all the coaches was if you could get yourself on the other half of the bracket [than Waupun], you have a chance because the top seed on our side would be Laconia, whom we’ve beaten on their home floor."
