The Ripon Tiger wrestling team didn’t have a full squad last weekend at the On the Water Classic.

That didn’t stop it from finishing in the top half of the field.

The Tigers placed 28th out of 64 teams at the competition, which took place at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh’s Kolf Center, with 103 points. They only had 10 out of a maximum 14 wrestlers.

“We put up a good fight [last week] Friday,” Ripon head coach Lee Cotton said. “Some of our guys weren’t seeded, so that put us up against some stiffer competition with our first matches and probably cost us a few places. But the experience with our seniors and being seeded definitely helped get us into the second day.”

Two seniors who led Ripon at the meet were Tucker Bender  (220-pound weight class) and Ryan Cody (145). They placed seventh and eighth in their respective weight classes to combine for 52 of the Tigers’ 105 total points.
