The Ripon High School girls’ cross country team fell just short of achieving its goal last week Saturday at the Winneconne Sectional.

But that did not stop head coach Chris Gatzke from being pleased with its performance at the meet.

The Tiger girls finished 10th out of 15 teams with 233 points.

Grafton won the meet with 47 points and was followed by Random Lake (60), Cedar Grove-Belgium (99), Berlin (144), Winneconne (157), Mayville (200), Kettle Moraine Lutheran (204), Omro (230), Lomira (231), Ripon (233), Kewaskum (238), Campbellsport (295), Wautoma (330), Waupun (402) and North Fond du Lac/Oakfield (403).

“We were shooting for eighth and we were three points away,” Gatzke said. “We wanted to try to beat KML and KML was a much better big-meet team. There were too many runners in between their top and our top to make up the difference. But to fall three points short of taking eighth, considering we were bottom three the year before, it’s still a big improvement.”
