The Ripon Tiger girls’ basketball team hopes the third time is the charm Tuesday, when it opens WIAA regional tournament play on the road against Winneconne.

Ripon, which received the No. 12 position in its 12-team half sectional bracket, lost to the No. 5-seeded Wolves 56-45 and 68-53 earlier this season in East Central Conference (ECC) competition.

“When you have the opportunity to play an opponent [three times], you hope that you learn from the first two times around,” Ripon head coach Tom McNeill said.

He noted the Wolves are an athletic team that are well coached and likes to apply pressure in the back-court. Handling that pressure, he believes, will be critical.

“That’s something that we’re going to have to … address, but at the same time, with a young team like we have, we’ve got to … just be patient,” Tom McNeill said. “They like … to really get the tempo and the pace up as quickly as they can, and I think what we’re going to have to do is be patient, take care of the basketball and look for high-quality shots.”

The Tigers showed they could hang with the Wolves in the previous games.
