The Ripon College men’s basketball team played catch-up for the first half Tuesday against Lawrence after falling behind early.

It made sure it didn’t have to do that again during the second half.

The Red Hawks, who fought back from as many as 11 points down in the first half to enter halftime knotted up at 36, went on a 26-8 run to begin the second half.

They then cruised to an 88-62 home victory.

With the win, Ripon remains in a tie for second place in the Midwest Conference with St. Norbert, which defeated Lake Forest to knock it from the second-place logjam.

Monmouth leads the conference by one game over Ripon and St. Norbert with one game remaining.

“[The Vikings] went into halftime with a ton of confidence that they could maybe pull this off, and we needed to kind of shatter that in the first five minutes. I thought we did a good job of that,” Ripon head coach Ryan Kane said.
