No comeback was needed this time around for the Ripon College women’s basketball team against the Lawrence Vikings.

After being forced to overcome a 15-4 deficit to Lawrence just six days earlier, the Red Hawks led from start to finish Tuesday night en route to a 63-47 home victory.

With the win, they keep pace with Cornell for the top spot in the Midwest Conference with one game left in the regular season.

While Ripon didn’t have to stage a comeback Tuesday to remain in a tie with Cornell, it did have to stave off a Viking rally.

Lawrence closed what was once a 16-point deficit to 42-37 with around four minutes left in the third quarter, before the Red Hawks went on a 16-4 run to secure the win.

“We needed to step on the gas again ... and they did that,” Ripon head coach Lauren Johnson said of the final run. “The team put together a couple more consecutive stops in a row on the defensive end, which ignited our offense.”
