The Ripon College women’s basketball team’s hopes of hosting the Midwest Conference hit a bump last week Saturday as it lost to Lake Forest 66-45 in Illinois.

The loss, coupled with a Cornell victory over Knox, dropped the Red Hawks into a tie for first place with Cornell with four games left.

Ripon wasn’t particularly competitive with the Foresters, either.

After managing to hang around with Lake Forest in the first half, it was out-scored 40-21 in the second.

A big reason for that was the struggle of the Red Hawks’ offense.

It shot a season-low 23 percent (15 of 66) from the field in the game, which included just 14 percent (5 of 35) in the second half.

“We never got into any flow on the offensive end,” Ripon head coach Lauren Johnson said. “We shot terribly all game. Missed open layups, missed putbacks on the offensive end and [had] just an overall lack of aggressiveness.”

Ripon also was hurt by the absence of Maggie Oimoen, who missed the game with a concussion.
