While the Ripon College softball team only won one of its four games at the ACM Dome Tournament last weekend, it was much more competitive than its record suggests.

The Red Hawks led Macalester 1-0 into the sixth inning, had the University of Wisconsin-River Falls on the ropes early and were scoreless with the No. 8 team in the country through three innings.

In the end, however, an 11-2, five-inning win over St. Scholastica is the only win they managed.

They lost to Macalester 4-1, UW-River Falls 10-2 in six innings and Luther 8-0 in five frames.

The tournament took place at the Rochester Dome in Minnesota.

“Overall, it was a good learning experience,” first-year Ripon head coach Steve Wammer said. “I think we left at least one win out there that maybe we could have gotten.”

Ripon (2-4 overall) began the tournament last week Saturday against the Macalester Scots (3-3) and wasted no time scoring.

It plated a run in the bottom of the first inning on a Camryn Hamilton RBI single to take a 1-0 lead.

But that was the only run the Hawks scored as they managed just three hits the rest of the way.
