(Re: “Honor roll discontinued for middle grades,” Nov. 23, 2017) For those who don’t like this decision I have a few questions:

     1. How many of you take the time to check the school board agenda to see if there is something coming up you have interest in? It’s posted publicly before every meeting.

     2. How many of you go before the school board to speak, as you are allowed by law to do?

     3. How many of you call a school board member or email them? ...

... new grading standards that are being used as a result of both federal and state standards. It is pretty hard to compile an honor roll when students have not finished a course that takes 180 days. They may start out getting 2 grades and as the year goes along progress to 3 grades and even 4 grades.

We are no longer back in the one-room schoolhouse or even the ’50s or the ’80s. Things that worked then might not work now. If nothing ever changed we would be teaching typing to freshmen on a manual typewriter instead of keyboarding to 1st and 2nd graders. Times change. ...
