To the editor:

On behalf of the Webelo Scouts we would like to thank the Ripon Police and EMS departments for role-playing emergency response scenarios with our fourth-grade Cub Scouts.

Police Sgt. Schroeder and EMT Nurse Betty Smith and EMT Paramedic Randy Meyer provided the scouts with a wonderful opportunity to not just fulfill their 1st Responder requirements but to really get the kids to understand how important it is to Stay Calm and to Stay Safe in case of an emergency.

The scouts were then shown how to observe a victim and the scene in order to give a fuller and more accurate picture of the emergency to dispatch as well as how to give life-saving treatments to the victim.

The scouts came away with not only a better understanding of how to save a life but also how cool it was for the officers in full uniform to come spend some time with them.

We love that our EMS teams are enthusiastic supporters of our kids.
