Letter: Petition circulators aren't checking addresses

To the editor:
“….I know that the signers are electors of the jurisdiction or district represented by the officeholder named in this petition….I know their respective residences….I am aware that falsifying this certification is punishable under S.12.13(3)(a), Wis. Stats.”
So reads the declaration that every Recall Petition circulator must sign and date at the bottom of each sheet.
They are directed to certify they know every signer recorded on their petitions, as well as each signer’s respective residence.
Whoever violates the above law is guilty of a Class I felony, according to a related statute.
On Thursday, Dec. 1, I stopped in front of our local Post Office, where two men had set up shop to collect “Recall Walker” petitions.
I signed their petition to test them. I did not know these guys at all, and I am almost certain neither of them knew me.
They did not ask me to show any identification, and they definitely did not know my legal residence.
If the petition carrying my name and address was certified by the circulator and forwarded for the recall, it is fraudulent and should be declared invalid....
Hopefully justice will prevail!

As we all should know by now the war in Iraq is officially over and the last of our troops are finally comming home. I think wether we were for this war or not we owe our men and women in unifiorm a great deal of thanks and gratitude for the unrelenting courage and sacrifice they have shown through this very long and difficult struggle. I hope you know that you can all hold your heads up high and never forget how proud we are of each and every one of you, and I think I speak for everyone in this country when I say thank you ,welcome home and happy holidays, you've earned it.

Sorry Dave, but your signature will be counted. The responsibility for the verification of the correct address is on the signor, not the person providing the paper to be signed. If you provided your correct name and your correct address, then you have fulfilled the requirements the GAB, according to the law, requires.. Thanks for your support .
