Kids helping out kids

Fifth graders show off some of the coats they have already received.

Fifth graders at Murray Park Elementary School in Ripon are putting the less fortunate at the forefront this winter.

The students are participating in the Coats for Kids campaign, which relies on gently used, donated coats to give to less fortunate families in Wisconsin.

The class was participating in a reading series that talked about children helping out others and they decided this would be a great way to reach out.

“Some kids aren’t as lucky as us and we want to help them out,” said one student in Sherry Byng’s fifth grade class.

And the students have been working hard to get the word out about their campaign.

Students have designed 36 posters they have put up throughout Ripon, as well as notes that are inserted in shopping bags at Pick ’n Save. They have even been using the morning announcements at the school to notify everyone of the drive.
