The Ripon College Theatre Department will present Sarah Ruhl’s “Eurydice” March 3 to 6 at 7:30 p.m. in Benstead Theatre, C.J. Rodman Center of the Arts.
Eurydice is based upon the famous Orpheus myth and is a meditation on love, loss, memory and trust. Ms. Ruhl’s father was taken from her at a young age, and this play was a way for her to reconnect with him, and in a fantasy world, spend time with him.
The plot of the play has little to do with personal experience, and follows a newlywed’s adventures in the underworld after an untimely death. Eurydice is torn from her new husband, Orpheus, who is the world’s most astounding musician, and meets her father in the underworld. Many events ensue, involving magical powers and the Lord of the Underworld.
