Ripon residents seeking answers to concerns with the retina and optic nerve no longer need to travel to the Fox Valley for diagnosis.
A local optometry clinic now has an imaging system that enables it to see both areas with detail never before available.
Visioncare Associates, 113 Watson St., now offers an optical coherence tomography (OCT) system, which captures three-dimensional images of the optical nerve and retina down to a thousandth of a millimeter.
This state-of-the-art technology enables Dr. Vic Roeder and Dr. Randy Zieth to quickly and easily identify and diagnose such ailments as macular degeneration.
“We are extremely happy to have it here and it’s helped out in diagnosis and treatment of diseases,” Roeder said. “It’s helped out tremendously.”
It’s not an obscure system that only gets dragged out on occasion, too. As he explained, OCT has daily applications for patients of Visioncare Associates.
“If I don’t have a patient or two a day using it, Randy will have a patient or two,” Roeder said. “It gets used a lot.”
It’s an extremely quick and painless test.
“It takes a couple minutes to set it up, and seconds to do,” Roeder said.
Results are available immediately.
