... Anyone who runs into a burning building while everyone else is running out must be revered.

So, how might a person choose one in particular to emulate?

Ask those who know best: fellow firefighters.

This is how Rick Mlodzik of the Ripon Area Fire District (RAFD) was named Firefighter of the Year.

Chosen by his peers, Rick was honored not necessarily for one particularly good year, but for the body of work that encompasses his entire career. The firefighters voted on the honor at their first meeting of the year.

And, as one finds out after asking those who know, Rick’s done much in his 23 years on the department.
