To the editor:

We were recently saddened by Kareem Abdul Jabbar’s announcement that he has leukemia.

Even though Kareem has excellent insurance, he is to admired for using the occasion to cite the need for health care for all Americans. Ironically, his statement came the same week at the House of Representatives passed the Affordable Health Care for America Act. ... Let’s hope the advantages of the House bill can be preserved or strengthened as the Senate presents its version of how we can make affordable health care available for all Americans.
