I must raise an objection to the Ripon Commonwealth Press’s caption to its article on my complaint being handled by the Green Lake County Sheriff’s Department (“Riponite requests investigation after talk with mayor,” Jan. 21).

The paper quotes Kramer as expressing “surprise that what he characterized as ‘a two-way conversation ...,’” etc. The paper quotes me in response to the paper’s query about Kramer’s assertion of “a two-way conversation” as saying “...I wouldn’t even characterize it as an exchange.”

Obviously, there have been two different points of view quoted, one as a “conversation” and the other as “(not) even an exchange.” For all that the Ripon Commonwealth Press knows, that distinction may be precisely what is at issue. In fact, the Green Lake County Sheriff’s Department referred only to an “incident in Ripon.”

The Ripon Commonwealth Press seems to have pre-judged in favor of Kramer’s assertion what that incident might have been by captioning their article with “Riponite requests investigation after talk with mayor.” ...
