TO THE EDITOR:

(In response to the West Bend mother serving alcohol to 11- to 14-year-olds) As someone who works in the health-care industry and devotes time to making the public more aware of community health concerns, and as a mother, I am appalled that a mother would provide alcohol to a group of middle schoolers as a way to celebrate a birthday.

It’s bad enough that teens and young adults under the age of 21 are drinking, with many becoming dependent on alcohol at an early age, but it’s even worse because these young children are still developing physically and emotionally and are unaware of how drinking effects their development.

One can only wonder about this mother’s maturity level, not to mention intelligence. Wisconsin needs to be tougher on social hosting laws!
