To the editor:
Following World War I, America retreated into isolation. Veterans, who had been promised a bonus were ignored. The League of Nations, that Wilson envisioned was nor joined. Price controls, which might have softened the transition to normal economic times, were done away with and inflation followed. The Veterans Bureau was a personal reward system for Harding’s “Ohio Gang,” as was the oil reserves at Teapot Dome and Elk Hills. Government was “what’s in it for me.” Now the same thing is happening.
Trump is a totally “what’s in it for me” type. His Golf Courses and hotels are rented out for his personal financial gain. Alliances that have been the backbone of international security have been ended. Veterans and the war dead are “losers” and “suckers.”
Trump is the new Harding, extra marital affairs and cheating at golf while being proven a liar. And oddly, now, just as then, the majority of the public is ignorant as to what is happening to our democracy.
