To the editor:

How appropriate that the Republican party was founded in the Little “WHITE” Schoolhouse in Ripon. That is where this party is focusing its base on now.

They are trying to create a message that the only true Americans are white Anglos and everyone else is an outsider.

Slaves purchased and brought to this country were really loved and treated like family.

The “Trail of Tears” was just a relocation effort that was beneficial to the Native Americans living on their own land.

Imprisoning people of Asian heritage in barbed wire encampments was necessary because they might have been part of a plot to overthrow the US government during a declared war — unlike Jan 6th peaceful protest.

Now Republicans are trying to suppress the right to vote of anyone other than primarily white voters in order to maintain power and control of the legislative process. Someone please explain to me why the Republican party has voted 100% against any bill that benefits the working people of this country but didn’t bat an eye when they raised the deficit by trillions to give a tax break to the richest 1% of the population. Let Jackson MI take credit for the Republican party - it’s nothing more than a black eye on Ripon’s history.

No Sallie - The Reblican party was not started to end slavery but instead to stop its spread. In the 1820's Missouri was allowed to enter the Union as a slave owning state but slave ownership was forbidden any where else in the LA purchase specifically Maine was to be admitted as a free state. This was refered to in history as the Missouri Compromise. That law was repealed by the Kansas - Nebraska Act in 1854. People that opposed that Act - Whigs and Free Soilers - banded together to oppose the spread of slavery - not to end it! Please check your history before commenting. AP classes may have been boring then but are so relevant now. You should have paid more attention to what was being taught. Take the time to look over the past Republican stated election goals and platforms - especialy those from Dwight Eisenhower. Goals and tax rates that closely resemble the stated objectives of todays Democratic party. Please tell me when exactly did you lose your focus on what is beneficial for the good of the American people and become a disciple of Donald Trump and put his wellbeing over that of the American people instead

You claim to support all races, but you don’t know the true meaning behind the Republican Party and why it was started in Ripon, WI. The Republican Party was started to end slavery. Quoting Dan Gatzke, from Ripon, “The Republican party - it’s nothing more than a black eye on Ripon’s history.”

You have a distorted view of historical and current events. You cannot distinguish truth from lies. As reality of the Biden policies start to affect you personally, you may understand. Higher gas prices, higher prescription drug prices, groceries etc. Inflation is the cruelest tax on the poor.

That’s all you’ve got, Dan? Feelings, not facts.

Sallie, the Republican Party wasn't founded to "end slavery". Yes, that's a component, but it was also founded to help control tensions between religions. Also, nativism & prohibition. Both of you should know your facts.

Wow Sallie is right for once. Yes, part of the formation of the Republican Party was to take down Andrew Jackson's crazy ways. However ever since, The Republican has flip-flopped becoming the haters of race and inequality for the benefits of their own wallets. Parties change as well as people do Sallie and sorry but Republicans are on the wrong side of the isle in this new world government. Many are the most selfish individualists we have ever known. You tell us Sallie, are Democrats more for anti-Semitism, racial equality, transgenderism and fighting for the middle class, or is the Republican Party working harder to find solutions for these issues? Quit trying to project yourself as some "godly Republican savior" and start acting like an 1834 Republican who actually did something good for mankind.

63 Republican congressmen just voted against the anti-Asian hate crimes bill in case you didn't hear...

“Republicans in the House and Senate should not approve the Democrat trap of the January 6 Commission. It is just more partisan unfairness and unless the murders, riots, and fire bombings in Portland, Minneapolis, Seattle, Chicago, and New York are also going to be studied, this discussion should be ended immediately. Republicans must get much tougher and much smarter, and stop being used by the Radical Left. Hopefully, Mitch McConnell and Kevin McCarthy are listening!“

One of the key components at the foundation of the Republican Party was anti-slavery. They don't teach that in school.
