Green Lake police respond to report of armed man

The Green Lake County SWAT team responded to a possible armed and suicidal subject at a trailer park on Highway 23 near Green Lake, but turned up empty-handed.

Authorities were notified Tuesday around 5:10 p.m.

The subject — known to law enforcement as a 19-year-old Green Lake male — was reported to be armed and confined in a home at the Coachlite Trailer Park near the intersection of Forest Ridge Road. He also was wanted on warrants.

“The Green Lake County Sheriff’s office received information concerning a possible suicidal subject,” reads a media statement from the Sheriff’s Department. “... Deputies arriving on scene attempted contact with no result. Neighbors adjacent to the home were asked to evacuate and a perimeter was established. The Green Lake County Combined Tactical Unit was called including the Winnebago County Bearcat.

“After several hours of attempts to locate the subject to determine his welfare the decision was made, at approximately 8:25 p.m., to discontinue tactical operations. The subject’s welfare is to be determined by other means.”

No citizens or officers were injured.

Responding units include the Green Lake County Sheriff’s office, Markesan Police, the Green Lake County Combined Tactical Unit, Winnebago County Sheriff’s Bearcat and Green Lake EMS.
