Saturday, January 22 marked the 38th anniversary of the Supreme Court decision, Roe vs Wade legalizing abortion in America. There have been many articles written, rallies of speeches and marches this weekend protesting this decision that has resulted in the ripping of ca. 50 million babies from their mothers' wombs and destroying them. These babies have been denied their "right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness".
Yes, God created all people in His own image which included freedom of the will. I believe that people have freedom of choice, but that does not include the freedom to destroy another's life. We have the freedom to enjoy responsible sexual relations within heterosexual marriage. Once a child is conceived we have the responsibility to give that child the best possible care before and after birth.
God said to Noah after the flood, "Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed; for in the image of God has God made man." Genesis 9:6 Is America reaping a harvest of bloodshed, because we have not taken the sanctity of all human life seriously? Is there now a day without attempted multiple shootings somewhere in America? Have we sown to the wind and are now reaping the whirlwind? Yes, and we must make a new effort to keep guns out of the hands of emotionally unstable people which is no easy task with the breakdown of the family causing increasing numbers of angry young men. The sexual revolution leading to cohabitation without marriage and easy divorce and thus babies/children being reared in single parent homes is causing an epidemic of unhealthy/unruly children. Ask any school teacher right here in Ripon who witness it every day. It is everywhere, not just in the inner cities.
Were many pro-abortion candidates like Senator Feingold voted out of office because they failed to listen to the people's wishes on this and many other issues? Since the election I have been receiving regular e-mail reports from here-to-fore silent Senator Kohl's office telling us all of the wonderful things he has been doing to create jobs in Wisconsin. Did the election put the fear of God in him? Let him now tell us when he has ever voted against abortion on demand.
Some might ask what is the Church doing besides protesting? Christians have been at the forefront of providing counseling services for women with unplanned pregnancies, homes for unwed mothers, adoption services, etc. while the godless protest funding to faith based agencies. Meanwhile, the government has been funding Planned Parenthood with hundreds of millions of dollars a year to provide abortion services. How long will God withhold his judgment on America for this? Or are we already experiencing His judgment in daily disasters around the globe?
May God have mercy on us all and lead us to repentance, faith and obedience before it is too late. "Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved..." Paul said to a jailor in the midst of an earthquake. Acts 16:31 This timeless truth is still good today. The Choice is yours.
