A Ripon man accused of engaging in sexual intercourse with a then-15-year-old girl has been charged with six child sex crimes.
Kyle J. Erdmann, 22, W465 McConnell Road, was charged Aug. 9 in Fond du Lac County Circuit Court with using a computer to facilitate a child sex crime, two counts of sexual assault of a child under 16 years old, two counts of child enticement and possession of child pornography.
All told, the maximum penalty for the three class C and three class D felonies could equal up to $600,000 and 195 years in prison if Erdmann were convicted on all charges.
The investigation began when the girl’s mother informed Ripon Police Jan. 5 that she discovered texts between her daughter and Erdmann on her daughter’s phone that seemed to indicate the pair had sexual intercourse.
The girl also sent nude pictures of herself to Erdmann through an app, according to the criminal complaint, which led to the child pornography charge as she was underage at the time.
“It’s a reminder for parents to be aware who their kids are talking to on social media,” Ripon Police Capt. Bill Wallner said. “... This is an example of how dangerous this type of situation can become.”
