With a former Packer on the schedule, a new daytime format and new activities, Ripon’s Relay For Life fund-raising nearly reached its financial goal last week Saturday — though donations fell for the second-straight year.
Thirteen teams helped bring in $69,863.69, virtually matching the $70,000 goal organizers set. American Cancer Society representative Katie McCormick believes, with the dollars still rolling in, the goal will be reached shortly.
“We’re just shy — but we’ll get there,” she said, noting money may be collected through the end of August.
Almost half that total was raised by the top-three teams: Condon Challengers ($23,722.19), the Save Yours ($4,642.10) and St. Catherines of Sienas ($4,283.07).
Top individual fund-raisers were Joan Amend ($1,578) and Diane Berndt ($1,040).
Last year, preliminary totals after the weekend were nearly $75,000, and they exceeded $80,000 in 2011.
Though the event wasn’t the financial success it’s been the past two years, McCormick said she was pleased with how the event went overall.
“I thought that it went over really great,” she said.
