Jacob Kain recalls, as a youngster, falling in love with the old building at the southeast corner of Watson and West Fond du Lac streets.

“I asked [then-owner Bob] Benkoski to let me look at it,” Kain said, noting a rather obliging Benkoski allowed him to not only enter, but measure out every square inch of the building.

It was the budding architect’s dream.

This fall, Kain — now the vice president of architecture for Boca Grande Capital LLC — will be able to take those gossamer thoughts and turn them into girders and beams.

That building, located at 205, 207 and 209 Watson St., is the next project Boca will tackle.

But Kain isn’t the only one with input on the project. The entire community may weigh in Friday during an open house.

The public may look at the plans for the project, inspect models of the renovation and ask questions about it.

“We’ll be soliciting memories or stories of how the space was used, too,” Kain said.

The open house will run from 5 to 7 p.m.; refreshments will be served.
