Ripon race engine company named ‘Builder of Year’

Mike Tiry of rural Ripon, standing in front of his business’s new CNC (computer numerical control) machine, holds up the “2018 Engine Builder of the Year” award he received. Tiry’s Race Engines & Components was given the award after a car powered by the company’s LST engine, shown at right, won the ARCA Midwest Tour.

For decades, Mike Tiry of rural Ripon and his team have built race engines for decades out of Mike’s workshop.

But a few years ago, they were inspired to try something new.

Called the “LST,” the engine is a work of beauty.

Lightweight, (relatively) inexpensive to produce and gleaming with the name “Tiry’s” imprinted on it, the LST caused Mike and his crew to know they had something special on their hands.

But it took time for others to agree.

Now, there’s no question: the LST is a winner, and so is Tiry’s Race Engines & Components.

The company recently was named “Engine Maker of the Year” by the ARCA Midwest Tour.
