Ripon City Administrator Steve Barg is one of five finalists to become the next city administrator for Marshfield.
But this doesn’t mean Barg is in a hurry to leave Ripon, he said.
With his youngest son nearly out of Ripon schools, Barg explained he, for the first time, is willing to consider a limited number of other opportunities — but only if it’s the perfect position for him.
Whether he’s the best fit for Marshfield, located 86 miles northwest of Ripon, or whether Marshfield is the best fit for Barg, though, remains to be seen.
News of Barg being on Marshfield’s short list broke this morning (Wednesday) after the Marshfield Common Council released the names at its Tuesday evening meeting.
Other individuals vying for the post include the city of Marshfield’s finance department director and three other individuals who have experience as either a city administrator or city manager in Wisconsin.
According to Barg, he applied for the position in July, when an ad was placed for the post.
“I’ve been with the city of Ripon for 13 years, and I continue to be very happy here,” he said. “But as we near the point where my kids complete high school, I may be interested in considering a limited number of other possibilities that come up.”
