Residents wishing to dispose of items such as couches, mattresses and boxes of stuff from their attics now must expect to pay more.

The Common Council agreed at its meeting Tuesday night to restructure the fee schedule to make it more uniform.

The result for residents, however, is that it will cost more than in the past.

As in the past, residents will continue to pay $30 for one-time use of a 350-gallon container brought to their home.

But, to make the fees for items taken to the compost site more uniform with the 350-gallon-container cost, residents now must pay:

$20 for a ticket for disposal of up to 350 gallons at the compost site; or,

$15 for a ticket for each item that does not fit in the 350-gallon container, such as couches.

This differs from current practice, which allow residents to pay $15 for a ticket to dispose of a full pickup-load of items.
