Create a custom cribbage board during "Woodworking Wednesday" at Town Square Community Center on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

As cooler weather approaches, cribbage is a fun way to pass the time and can help kids work on their math skills. Use your board to challenge family and friends to a friendly game or give as a gift to your favorite cribbage player.

In this hands-on class, instructor and woodworker Bret Steffen will talk about materials and step-by-step construction of a custom game board.

Steffen has been tinkering, making, restoring and teaching for almost a half-century. He recently survived a canoe trip from Princeton to Berlin with his 10-year-old son using their home-crafted paddles.

Steffen said he loves to create things that are useful almost as much as he loves to enrich the lives of the people around him, which is why he began teaching woodworking courses at Town Square.

“Having a special location to come together, gather, help and support each other has been lost in this world and is what makes Town Square Community Center so appealing,” he said.

Woodworking Wednesday is a monthly event series with local woodworkers guiding participants through the creation of a woodcraft project.

This course is $20, plus $15 for materials. Registration can be completed online at
