Ripon High School alumna Kali Kinziger has seen the future.

Actually, she hopes that she’s helping build it.

Kinziger, who will begin her senior year next week at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, is part of a UW team called Badgerloop.

Badgerloop is one of dozens of teams around the world developing prototype pods for super-fast travel in futuristic “hyperloops” proposed by spacecraft company SpaceX.

The idea is that the pods could carry passengers through hyperloops between cities — say Los Angeles and San Francisco or Minneapolis and Chicago — in a fraction of the time it would take a car, train or even an airplane.

Formed in 2015, Badgerloop was one of 25 teams out of 150 picked to compete this past weekend at SpaceX’s one-mile hyperloop track at the company’s headquarters in Hawthorne, Calif.
