The leader of a fishing crew allegedly responsible for the massive fish kill on Lake Puckaway is charged with a felony.

Timothy J. Smith, 35, Swanton, Ohio, made his initial appearance Monday in Green Lake County court. He faces one felony count of violating fish dealing rules, and three forfeitures for unlawful possession of fish.

Green Lake County Judge W.M. McMonigal has ordered a $25,000 signature bond.

According to court documents, about 3,300 game fish were found dead on Lake Puckaway late last year after Smith’s commercial fishing operation allegedly went awry. Read the full story in the April 22 issue of the Ripon Commonwealth Press.
