UW Marching Band

The UW-Madison Marching Band plays at one of Green Lake’s Concerts in the Park. The Wednesday concert series is scheduled to start July 8, nearly a month later than normal due to COVID-19. The marching band is set to return Aug. 12.

While many events have been canceled this summer, community leaders continue to push forward with plans for traditional summer gatherings, such as the Green Lake Area Chamber of Commerce’s (GLACC) Concerts in the Park series.

Each Wednesday from July 8 to Aug. 19, the chamber will host free concerts in Deacon Mills Park from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Andrea & the Mods will play the first show of the series.

At a meeting of community leaders June 17 designed to get everyone on the same page as they prepare to host events amid the COVID-19 pandemic, GLACC Executive Director Lisa Beck discussed safety measures for Concerts in the Park.

“We are going to be implementing some procedures and safety precautions that we hope we can continue to move forward with,” Beck said.

The chamber will work to create one entrance in the park, where attendees will be required to sign-in. Beck noted the sign-in sheet is designed to assist the Green Lake County Health Department perform contact tracing, if a confirmed COVID-19 case were linked to a concert.

In addition, for at least the first few concerts, the chamber will place 60 circles on the ground — 6-feet away from each other — throughout the park.

Beck expects attendance to be worse than previous years, as those who feel sick are encouraged to stay home and many are still not comfortable being in public spaces.
