What fills the Ripon Area Fire District’s fire house every fall? Its annual open house, of course.

Children from around the Ripon community poured into the fire station, despite weather reports threatening pouring rain last week Tuesday evening.

Though the weather kept the helicopter ambulance away, kids had plenty else to check out and do, ranging from rides on fire trucks to a chance to spray the fire house and even put out a real fire of their own.

Above, the face of Mia Machkovich, 6, of Ripon beams as she hits the target — a drum suspended on a wire — with the help of firefighter Carl Ellis.

Above left, Jack Kaatz, 2, of Ripon learns how to use a fire extinguisher with the help of Lizzy Roy of Ripon.
