Man sentenced on sexual assault charge

A Ripon hotel owner was sentenced Tuesday to eight years in state prison for having intercourse with an underage girl.

Srbo M. Lazic, 240 E. Fond du Lac St., owner of the Ripon Welcome Inn, had pleaded no contest Jan. 12 to one felony count of second-degree sexual assault of child in Fond du Lac County Circuit Court.

Two other such charges were dismissed and read into the court record in the plea agreement.

Lazic, 42, was charged in early 2014 after a teenage girl told authorities she had consensual intercourse with him on three occasions at the Welcome Inn.

At the time, Lazic was 40 and the girl was 15.

Ripon Police Chief Dave Lukoski emphasized the girl could not legally consent.

“Wisconsin statutes indicate clearly that someone under the age of 16 is not capable of consent ... Sexual assault of a child is the charge that he eventually pleaded to, and that’s because of the age of the child,” Lukoski said earlier this year.
