Mayor: Boca Grande is Ripon's 'one big shot'

Local officials speak at the Fall Forum, held Monday, Nov. 9, 2009.

Ripon Mayor Aaron Kramer is standing firm in his belief that Boca Grande Capital will bring good things to Ripon.

“This is our one big shot,” he said during a panel discussion Monday.

Speaking alongside a group of other local leaders at Royal Ridges, Kramer addressed about 50 lunchtime attendees.

Other topics included Ripon city services, education, local beautification and the Mercury Marine situation.

Kramer emphasized Ripon leaders were vigilant in granting Boca Grande’s $8.6 million developer’s agreement that seeks to reform the downtown via the Ripon Inn and Spa and other significant renovations.

With several downtown buildings deteriorating, Kramer believes it’s better to undertake one big project than upgrade one or two buildings a year.

The Boca project is “vital” to the city, he said.

But Kramer added, “It’s not overwhelmingly popular, I will admit.”
